Dr. David Meyer – Veterinarian/Owner
Dr. David Meyer is the owner of Vivian Animal Hospital. Dr. Meyer was born in Vivian, La, and as a young boy his family moved to Haughton, La. He is a high school graduate of Haughton High School and went on to graduate from Centenary College in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He then decided to follow his life’s dream of becoming a veterinarian. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at Louisiana Tech University, then attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1987. Geaux Tigers!
After graduating, Dr. Meyer worked at Benton Animal Hospital before returning to Vivian and opening his own practice in 1988. He enjoys working on all animals, great and small. He met his wife, Leslie, at Louisiana Tech University. They have three wonderful children, Kristen, Matthew and Alecia, four grandsons and one granddaughter. In his spare time, Dr. Meyer enjoys training and field trialing his black labrador, Jake. Together they have achieved the status of Hunting Retriever Champion in 2015. Dr. Meyer also loves cheering on his LSU Tigers!
Dr. Alecia Foster – Veterinarian
Dr. Alecia Foster was born and raised in Vivian, La. She has always had a special love for animals and realized at a young age she would follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Foster attended Louisiana Tech University as an undergraduate majoring in Animal Science. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in many campus organizations, and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was accepted into Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2017.
After graduation, Dr. Foster began practicing at Benton Animal Hospital in Benton, La. In July 2018, she officially joined our practice as an associate veterinarian. She enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine. Dr. Foster has furthered her education and obtained her national certification from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) where she can improve the quality of lives through an alternative therapy. Dr. Foster and her husband, Tylar, welcomed their first child, Eli Ryan, in April 2018. In her spare time, she enjoys quality time with her family and two dogs (Rayne and Moto), traveling, exercising, hunting and fishing, and reading.
Leslie – Practice Administrator
Leslie is the wife of Dr. David Meyer. Their relationship began while attending Louisiana Tech University where Dr. Meyer tutored her in accounting. That relationship grew and later led to their marriage in the summer of 1983. Together they have three children, Kristen, Matthew and Alecia. Throughout the years Leslie has helped at the clinic and also accompanied Dr. Meyer on his farm calls. She learned how to groom and for many years worked as the pet salon’s head groomer. Leslie is very talented and enjoyed passing on her talents by teaching others to groom as well. She has recently retired from grooming to be a full-time ‘GiGi’ to their grandchildren – Jaydin, Peyton, Rylan, Eli, and Scout. However, you will see Leslie lending a helping hand on Saturdays where she loves greeting clients at the front desk. When not working or watching the grandsons, she enjoys spoiling her yorkie, Minnie, but most of all, spending time with the love of her life, Dr. Meyer.
Carey – Client & Animal Care Team
Carey joined the Vivian Animal Hospital family in the spring of 2008. She has been a great asset to our practice. Over the years she has been well trained and has worked in all areas of our hospital. Whether in an exam room, performing a dental procedure, in the equine area, or in surgery, you can always find her assisting one of the doctors. Her favorite area to work in would most definitely be in surgery. She also feels it very rewarding to care for our hospitalized patients and nurse them back to good health.
Carey is married to her high school sweetheart, Jason. Together they have two daughters, Megan and Taylor. Carey has 10 dogs including a very spoiled catahoula and pit bull (Bandit and Gus). When not working, Carey enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and just about anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Taylor – Client & Animal Care Team
Taylor joined our family in March 2018. She graduated from North Caddo Magnet High School in 2018 and will continue her education at Louisiana State University Shreveport majoring in early childhood education, with plans to teach K-3. When not working she enjoys spending time with family and friends, her puppy Koda, and fishing. You can find her helping in exam rooms, caring for sick patients, and loving on any puppies that come in.
Cortney – Client & Animal Care Team
Cortney joined the VAH family in September 2018. She has 2 children, Grayson and Ashlynn, and five dogs (Mojo, Buck, Dixie, Sadie and Stormy). Cortney enjoys loving on all the patients that come through the door. She enjoys spending time with her family, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. You can find Cortney helping in the exam rooms, assisting with surgeries, and welcoming clients at the front desk.
Peyton – Client & Animal Care Team
Peyton joined our Vivian Animal Hospital family in October 2018. She has 2 dogs (Roux and Lyndie). She enjoys assisting the doctors during surgery and in the exam rooms. Peyton has a huge passion for animals and loves making a difference in their lives, and wants to adopt ALL the animals. Peyton is very dedicated to her work and loves caring for all our patients. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, hunting, fishing, saving dogs, and doing makeup on the side.
Erica – Client & Animal Care Team
Erica officially joined our VAH family in the summer of 2020 upon graduation from North Caddo Magnet High School. In the past she has spent many afternoons and Saturdays shadowing/observing around the clinic and lending a helping hand. She is currently majoring in pre-veterinary medicine at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. When she is not attending school or studying, you will find her helping in the exam rooms or caring for our patients/boarding residents in the kennel area. Erica has one dog (Rosey) and one hedgehog (Hazel) with hopes to adopt many more puppies and kittens. In her spare time, Erica enjoys spending time with her family.
